I come from a long line of people who have been involved with the Railways in Ireland. My Dad worked on the railways all his life and when he retired he volunteered with a local community initiative called the Waterford Suir Valley Railway until he passed away in 2018.
Established in 2000, WSVR approached me about their upcoming 20th Anniversary and asked if I would take up the torch from my Dad and help celebrate the next 20 years with a vision & positioning that expressed all that they wanted for the future. I was honoured.
We set to work and embarked on an extensive and inclusive brand positioning process where everyone was part of this next chapter in the railway's life.
We went on to appoint local agency Totem to implement the visual identity from our brand positioning & strategy work together and I am delighted to share that this work won a coveted World Logo Design Award as a result.
The Worldwide Logo Design Award (WOLDA) competition took place for the first time in 2006.
Wolda is an international competition for logos and business stationery, which aims to honor the world’s best work in the area of logo design and business stationery.
Gold, silver and bronze prizes are awarded as main prizes. In addition, there are also the “Awards of Excellence” for outstanding individual achievements. The work which has been awarded by the jury are published in a yearbook.
The WOLDA competition has six categories:
- Logo New
- Logo Redesign
- Animated Logo
- Sound Logo
- Corporate Identity
- Logo and Packaging

It was a pleasure working with you on this and delighted to see such a prestigious award come to Waterford! A little nod to my Dad who was part of WSVR at the very start - he would have been proud!
